about a girl who sits on a wall, and thinking about what happened. she just caught her boyfriend cheating with her best girl friend, and as she thinks about this the girl friend comes to her to talk. funny and sad story at the same time, humoristic drama.the confusion, denial, sadness and anger it causes one to feel, can seem overwhelming. just like a smoke-addict who claims not to smoke…

i’m still sitting on this wall, the brick chillcutting through my jeans. i take aswigof beer, wipe the condensationfrom my hand onto the dark denim, watch the smoke from my cigarette curl into the dark woods before disappearing into the sky. i am aware of the club behind me in the same way that i am aware of the seven foot dropunder mydanglingfeet; it’s there but i’m not going to fall.

我依旧坐在这堵墙上，砖块散发的寒意刺穿我的牛仔裤。我喝下一大口啤酒，将凝结在手上的啤酒珠蹭到深色牛仔布上，看着自己吐出的烟雾在空中盘旋，然后进入漆黑的树林，消失在夜空里。我意识到我身后的夜总会中的人们对我的感受，就如同我感受我悬空的脚下七英尺的高度；危险是危险，但我不会掉下去。

footsteps on the patiobehind me. it’s probably just another couple come to take advantage of one of the picnic tables. i place my beer down on the wall next to me ignoring them with a forceful drag on the cigarette. i don’t smoke.

我身后的露台上传来一阵脚步声。可能只是另一对夫妇来占一张野餐桌。我把啤酒罐放在我身边的墙头上，用力地吸了一口烟。我其实不吸烟。

she’s suddenly there, on the wall with me, and for a moment i’m afraid she has upset the beer can, precariouslybalanced on the old, crumbly bricks. but no, there it is, safe on my other side. we sit in silence for a moment as she contemplatesher intertwined fingers and i continue to watch the dark woods in front of me. i finish my cigarette, stub it out, light another. i don’t smoke.

她突然出现在我身旁的墙头上。片刻间，我有点儿担心她会弄翻我的啤酒罐，要知道啤酒罐放在这堵老旧且墙砖都已经松动的墙上本来就不太稳当。不过，我担心的事情并没有发生，我的啤酒还是稳稳地在我身边。有那么一会儿，我依然一言不发地坐在墙头上，而她双手手指交叉沉思着，我则继续看着我面前漆黑的树林。我吸完了一支香烟，把烟头掐灭，又点燃了另一支。我其实不吸烟。

she’s looking at me now. i can feel her eyes on the side of my head. “i’m sorry about… i’m sorry.” i do not respond. what response is there? i could tell her i’m sorry too, or that i’m not sorry and neither is he, so why should she be? or that he was… is… abastard, or that inside i’m crying but i don’t cry so… but she’s speaking again. the cigarette is shaking; highlighted by my apparent verbal incapacity, i can feel her attention focused on it. i don’t smoke.

“i hate men.” this said quietly, but with a strange, lightning vehemencethat captures my full attention instantly. i glance at her sideways with a laugh that might have passed for a cough. it could have been a cough. i don’t smoke.

she’s looking at me again, but i’m back in the woods. if i turn my head, i will be able to see her eyes and then i will know what she means. but it’s her move in this strange game we’ve been playing, and i remain still. i feel her look away again.pass. her disappointment is palpable, and i wonder what she wants from me, why she cares about my reaction, or lack thereof. i wonder how much she knows. i make my own move with a quickflickof the cigarette. i don’t smoke.

她再次看着我，但我的目光已回到了树林深处。如果此时我转过头，我就能看到她的双眸，然后就我会知道她的真正意思。但，正因为她在这场我们一直在玩的奇怪的游戏中的所作所为，于是保持着不动。我感到她再一次看向了别处。她放弃了这次机会。她的失望显而易见，我纳闷她想要从我这里得到些什么，为什么她在乎我的反应或者我的无动于衷。我好奇她究竟知道多少。我快速地弹了一下烟灰，算是我在这场游戏中的又一次行动。我其实不吸烟。

“no, i mean it. i really don’t like men.” louder. she gets her desired response. i take the cigarette out of my mouth with the hand previously reserved for beer and look at her. it’s her turn to look at the woods now. when she turns her head, too suddenly for me to pretend not to notice, to look away quickly. our eyes meet, green on more green. we both know that i know what she means. the next move is mine.

“不，我是说真的。我真的不喜欢男人。”她放大了声音。她得到了她想要的回应。我用之前拿啤酒罐的那只手取出了嘴里叼着的香烟，然后看着她。这次轮到她看向那片树林了。当她转过头来时，因为太突然，我没来得及假装没关注她，也没来得及迅速转开视线。我们的目光相遇了，两双绿色的眼睛彼此相对。我们俩都知道我了解她的真正意思了。下面该轮到我做出反应了。

i look away from her. “don’t we all,” i say ruefully as i stub my cigarette out. i swing my legs over the wall, start to leave and turn back. i do not look at her as i collect my beer from itsledge, down it, and crush the can. the metal crumples easily against my hand. i leave her sitting on the wall as i return to the glaring lights andpervasive bass booster, to my drunk and currently–conspicuously-cheating-in-a-corner friend. without taking my eyes off the unabashed gratificationin front of my eyes, i sit down on a stool, take out another cigarette, and ask the bartender for a light. i don’t smoke.

我把目光从她身上移开。“我们俩都不会。”我沮丧地说，同时熄灭了香烟。我摆动双腿，起身离开墙头，然后转过身来，从壁架上取下我的啤酒罐，然后用手将它碾成一团，这个过程中我没有瞅她一眼。碾成一团的啤酒罐在我手里并不显眼。当我回到耀炫目的灯光和无处不在的重低音中，回到我正在角落里喝的酩酊大醉、尔虞我诈且暗中出轨的朋友身边时，她还一个人坐在墙头上。我的目光并没有离开我眼前的这一幕毫无廉耻的获得快乐的场景，我坐在一张凳子上，又取出一支香烟，然后向酒保要了一个打火机。我其实不吸烟。

happy monday, everybody. it’s nick, back with you for another free talk section this week, and i hope ,i hope everybody is ok, i’ve heard a lot of rain last week in bj. finally a sunny day today, but yeah, wow, i mean 670 flights were cancelled. that must have created some chaos over at the bj airport. did anybody suffer any inconveniences from the weather recently from the heavy rainfall? it’s suppose to clear up this week another couple days, i think of rain late in the week.but other than that it’s gonna be some nice sunshine.

大家周一好，我是 nick。很高兴回来跟大家再一次进行 freetalk环节，希望本周大家都一切顺利。我听说上周北京大雨连天，好在现在已经晴天了。但是却导致了670趟航班取消，这肯定给北京机场带来了一些混乱。你们有没有遇到一些坏天气例如最近的下大雨所带来的不便，雨在本周或未来几天就会停了，我看本周末还会下雨，但是接下来就是晴天了。

finally the world cup has ended for all your soccer fans out there. france, (法语viva la france.) has won the world cup and a lot of speculations around the france soccer team. let me explain, ok, so most of the franch soccer team has some of the best players from africa.so somehow these african soccer players were able to get a france, france citizenship. and play for the france football team. do you guys think that’s fair, do you guys think that the country should just be allowed to make the best players their, you know, own citizens like recruiting the best players from africa to france,just to , you know, make their football team better, haha. i don’t know the whole story, maybe there’s more to it than that. but it seems like most of those players were, were from africa or ,or something. but that’s, that’s kind of the big news from, from our side about the world cup but nevertherless, the world cup was a very fun event. did you guys get to watch any games? are there any world cup fans out there, are there any soccer fans out there? if so, leave a comment below ask question,or let me know if you’re agree or disagree with the france’s tactic,so recruting some of the top football players from africa. like i said, i don’t know the full story, but from what i’ve heard, this seems to be the biggest concern right now. but i don’t know, i think it’ll be alright.

所以这周的谈话我会尽量简短一点，是因为我知道大家这周将会有点忙，因为一连下了一周的大雨导致什么事都做不成了，所以大家都会变得比较忙，来弥补大雨所带来的糟乱的情况。

so i am gonna go on to the first question of the day says:” hi nick,i’m coming haha! so last week you talked about hobbies/ weather, i wanna say some tips about decrease temperature in hot day. now start with hobbies. my hobbies are cooking, collecting glass bottles, learning languages, do yourself. maybe you think it’s weird ha?

我们来继续今天的第一答题环节：“你好！尼克，我来啦！哈哈。上周我们讨论了爱好，天气，我想要说一些如何在炎热的天气降温的方法。现在我们从烹饪开始，我的爱好是烹饪，收集玻璃瓶，学习外语，做你自己，或许你会觉得有点奇怪哈！”

“ glass bottles? no, i saw it all the time when i was in china. i saw people collecting glass bottles, they would go through the recycling bins and collect these glass bottles, so no, i don’t think it’s weird at all. but the question continues:” i like variety of bottles, big or small, colorful, such as bottles containing drinks or cokkies. you can be used to grow hydroponic plants.

ok, next topic, when i was a child, i remember my mom would make some food to eat in dog days. examples, green beans soup, taiguan in fermented glutinous rice soup, tomato slices with sugar, and also, bitter gourd. loofah,you could try it.i hope to be useful, see you.i don’ t think i will try any of them, any of those. no, i’m a very picky eater. i only eat burgers, hot dogs, french fries, kfc chicken. yeah, that’s my menu,that’s my diet.but thanks for the question, thanks for the comment. we really appreciate it.

well she’s absolutely right and you’re right for listening to her. because jingjing always give sound advice.

well yeah,thanks to be, i can see in your photo here, i think it’s your wechat photo, it’s like orange, yellow sunset background with you running towards it. i think that’s a great photo. did you put a tripod down? what camera were used? oh, no, you said you use your phone right? you see when i take photos, i always like to shoot in raw, raw footage,so you can always shoot in jpeg or you know, or raw. and i always like to shoot in raw because it’s better for editing, for post editting.but anyways yeah, we love to see some of your photos someday. so don’t be a stranger tippy.

the next question comes from viola liu. viola says:” hi nick, thanks for your care and yeah, i’m fine. i hope dudu is ok also.that’s good guys coz i know chengdu did suffer from some flooding. taikuli is still standing. it didn’t affact by the bad rain weather at all.coz it stands the higher georgraphy of chengdu. ah, cool, i did not know that. talking about hobbies, i love working out, watching films and i go to see opera in xiangsheng once in a while. so nick, do you know what’s the xiangsheng? no, but i’m going to ask my wife, hold on. 嘿，老婆，老婆. hold on one second i’m gonna pause and ask her.

so according to my wife, first of all, i was pronouncing it wrong. it’s xiangsheng, and apparently it’s like some sort of comedy, ah, two people talking to each other in like making some joke or something like that. yeah, yeah, we have something similar here. stand-up comedy, it’s more of a theatrical performance where one man has a microphone, and he’s on a stage in an theatre, and he just tells jokes.it’s not often that you see two people doing it on stage. it’s more just one guy and he’ll say:” oh i ran into a market the other day to buy fruit and you won’t believe the type of person i saw. this person was just… and describing his encounter with this person in a very funny way, and it’s kind of like an art to it. you know, kind of like when you writing a story, it’s like the introduction, the middle part and then the conclusion. well the art of the joke has the same thing.there’s like a set-up and then there’s like the climax, and then there’s like the funniest part has to be at the end. but there has to be a set-up to get to that part.so these comedians are real atrists, in my opinion.

听我妻子说，首先，我把发音弄错了，应该是”xiangshang”（相声）。显然，这一种喜剧，两个人互相对话，再制造一些笑话。我们这里也有一些类似的东西——脱口秀。在剧院里，一个人在自己的舞台用麦克风表演，他只和我们讲笑话，一般都看不到两个人在台上，通常只有一个人。他说：“uh–，我去了一趟集市买水果，你想象不到我会碰到那种人”——他会用一种搞笑的方式描述他跟这个人相遇的经过。这是一种艺术形式。类似于你在写一个故事，开始有介绍，然后是中间部分，最后做总结。然而，笑话这种艺术也有相似的东西。也有一个铺垫和高潮（climax)，而且到最后才是有趣的地方。但是做好铺垫是必不可少的。在我看来，这些笑星是真正的艺术家。

nick: ok, so, yueyunpeng is a name of xiangsheng actor.

viola: xiangsheng artist is one of the famous xiangsheng artists in china and abroad these years. he has improved his seating in international stage since xiangsheng went out of china.and he’s loved by foreigners.

nick: who is he? let’s look him up right now. let’s look him up.his name is yue.

(nick’s wife:” that will explore my age, but my favorite is masanli.”)

nick: masanli? ok, ok, so he’s in the movie, ok, top funny comedian. the movie and lixiaoting in revenge for love, born in puyang, china. married to zhengming, zhengming. who’s your favorite? ma..ma…

nick: masanli, oh, wow, yeah, born in october 1914, not long after you were born,right? honey?

(nick’s wife:” haha.”)

nick: maybe i should be a xiangsheng actor myself.

ok, our final question for today is from nick. not from me, but a listener named nick:” hi nick.” and nick says hi ,hi nick. so hi nick back.yeah, it’s nice to meet a person that our name is the same.likewise. alright, my hobbies are sports and movies and many others, but unfortunately, it’s a little bit late for me to understand these because i have to fight for my college.anyway, i just wonder how many times you spend in sprots as you’re a teenager becaust it seems like candian students are not busy studying, right? what? what sports are you play?

我们最后的一名幸运儿是nick，不是我啦，来自咱们同名同姓的听众。“nick，你好呀！”“你好呀，nick！”咱们的名字一样的，这是多么美好的一个缘分呀！同样地，我的兴趣爱好是运动和电影等等，但是遗憾的是，对我来说理解这些有点晚了。我得为了我的大学之梦奋斗，想请问一下，在你还是青少年的时候，你大概运动多久呢？？似乎加拿大的学生们都不是那么被学习搞的焦头烂额的，是么？！然后，你喜欢哪种体育运动呢？

ok, you’re absolutely right, and i’m gonna make this fast because i went quite long with this xiangsheng topic, but i barely studied. to be honest when i was young, i barely studied. very rare that i studied.to get into college or university is not that difficult to you, and the rankings of colleges and the ranking of universities don’t really matter when you’re going to find a job. as long as you have a, you know, the required degree. it doesn’t really matter what school you go to. you know, it’s just, i mean. your experience or your personality, those things matter much much more here. so, you know playing sports really helped me develop my social skills, so being around my friends all the time and working in the team environment because when you get into the workforce, you are forced to work together with your coworkers to achieve a certain goal or finish a certain task. now, many many of the sports here in canada are team sports, basketball, american football, soccer, hocker, volleyball. these are all sports that i play in high school growing up. compare that to china where the most popular sports are pingpang. badminton. i guess basketball is getting more popular these days so as soccer.but pingpong, badminton are two sports that are played individually. you understand what i’m saying? so you don’t really get to grasp that team environment, so my recommendation for any young listeners here is try to join team sports as much as you can, or try to join sports where you can interact with other people. because those group skills how you interact with others are going to become very very important when you become older.as a young professional or a professional look into advanced career. how do you get along with your teammates? how do you get along with your coworkers? so sport’s really transitions into the professional life very very well.

是呀，非常正确！我得快点了，那个相声话题聊的有点长。实话实说，我小时候确实很少学习。什么时候见我在学习，那是相当稀罕的。在这里，进大学似乎不是那么的难！你去找工作的时候，学校的排名无足轻重，只要你有所需的文凭就可以咯。同样地，你去哪所学校也没那么重要。事实上，你的经验、个性等等，在这儿显得更为重要的多！知道么，参加运动真的对发展我的社交能力有很大帮助。我一直跟朋友们在一起，作为团队成员存在。因为当你开始工作，你将要跟同事们一起去实现某个特定目标，完成某个任务。现在加拿大的很多运动都是团队运动，像篮球，美式橄榄球，足球，冰球，排球。这些都是我高中时期玩的。跟加拿大比起来，在中国乒乓球、羽毛球是最受欢迎的，我猜，篮球和足球也变得越来越被大家喜欢。但是，乒乓球和羽毛球是个人运动。你明白我的意思吧，做这些运动时你没有真正参与到一个团队中去。所以在此我给所有年轻人的建议是，尽可能多的参加团体运动，或者是能跟其他人交流互动的运动，因为长大以后，你会发现你跟其他人互动交流的团队能力相当重要。作为一个年轻的求职者或者渴望在工作中晋升的员工，你跟团队成员相处的能力，跟合作伙伴相处的能力，是相当重要的考核因素。而团体运动对你过渡到职业生涯非常之有帮助。
